Chestertown's Finest Chocolate Shop for Sale

Aspiring Chocolatiers Sought to Continue a Sweet and Profitable Chocolate Shop in Chestertown, MD.

January 8, 2025

The only Full-Service Chocolate Shop on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Bespoke Chocolate, is looking for a new owner to continue providing chocolate favorites and in-house made exotic creations for the Shore’s families and large tourist trade.

Originally opened in late 2021 as a hobby for the present owner in his 70’s and retired, the demand grew so rapidly that larger production equipment had to be ordered. While the original intent had been to be open limited hours, 3 days a week, therefore not requiring  staff, that  quickly changed to hiring  a full staff, cross trained in customer service, chocolate production and creating awesome slabs of fudge in over 30 flavors.

Over its brief 3+ years, Bespoke Chocolate has created special custom-made chocolate centerpieces, logo designed truffles, wedding favors & gifts, as well as theme gifts for Charles Dickens Celebrations and Wahington College, Chestertown River Arts and the Garfield Theater to name just a few.  A little over a year ago, a wholesale line was created under the Eastern Shore Chocolate Company brand that is now sold in 150 retail shops nationwide.

Now the owner, Stephen Lotharius and his family will be moving back to Wisconsin to enjoy their grandchildren before they become teenagers. “Chestertown was very patient with me while I learned how to pour and create chocolate and our popular line of Fudge, and then going through the growing pains of expansion to meet their demands.  While it’s time for me to move on, a Chocolate Shop belongs in Chestertown, and we’ll work with the new owners for them to hit the ground running and be available to them whenever they need assistance.  Not only does this offer an existing customer base that can provide a very nice living for the right owner, but being a Chocolate Shop plugs them into every local event, community celebration and activity group on the Shore.”

Anyone interested in more details should contact Lotharius directly and quickly, as he needs to complete the transfer by mid-summer, or the business will be closed and the space rented (so if you’re not interested in chocolate but need a high exposure retail space with plenty of parking, contact him on that as well)
